Onemind presents

The Vermont 3rd Annual Knitting Festival

Chicago, Illinois
May 1st & 2nd, 2019

Don't let the name fool you. It's not about knitting, it's only the first one, it's not a festival so much as a workshop, and it's in Chicago.

Why did we call it that? I honestly cannot remember, but I'm pretty sure alcohol played a role.

What is it?

This is a one-time meeting of indie authors and industry professionals who are killing it. The guest list has been curated by indies looking for a positive and productive environment of people who have something to contribute as well a something to be gained by attending.

So if you're seeing this, you've been handpicked as someone we would not only like to talk shop with, but also like to hang around for a few days. Because this is a curated group, we ask that invitees not mention it to others.

If you're curious whether someone you know was invited, feel free to ask one of the organizers.

Event goals

  • Creating a fresh braintrust

  • Introducing smart people to other smart people

  • Fostering an environment for innovation and collaborations

  • Identifying the next big ideas that will change the indie publishing game

  • Getting bird-eye-view data from our invited industry vendors

Why should you attend?

It's going to be a lot of tax-deductible fun. And here are some other benefits:

  • Two days surrounded by positive creatives

  • Max of 35 authors attendees means tailored advice for your business

  • Curated list means we skip the 101 and dive straight into deeper discussion

  • A focus on strategy over tactics

  • Immediate feedback on ideas from informed professionals

  • An opportunity to build deep and lasting relationships with others who understand this weird job

  • Dedicated, distraction-free brainstorming time to take your business to the next level

Chicago 2019

The original idea was to hold this at a different time in a different city, but there are a lot of great conferences happening now, and we know the price can add up.

The Sell More Books Show Summit folks have bestowed upon us their generous blessing to hold this event for two days before the 2019 Sell More Books Show Summit. The space we're looking at for it is just a few stops on the El Train away from the SMBSS venue, too. That means you can attend both events and only have to buy one round-trip ticket. It also opens up week-long Airbnb rental opportunities (more on that later).

Wednesday, May 1st
8:00-9:00am - Show up, say hello to familiar faces, caffeinate, meet those you'll be spending the next two days with.
9:00-10:30am - Round table discussions 1
10:30-10:45am - Break
10:45-noon - Round table discussions 2
Noon-1:00 - Lunch
1:00-2:30 - Round table discussions 3
2:30-3:30 - Break
3:30-5:00 - Open discussion, new discoveries

Note: The Sell More Books Show Summit is Saturday, May 4th to Sunday, May 5th with a thus far unannounced opportunity on Friday, May 3rd. For those either not attending the SMBSS or not interested in the event on the 3rd, we'll be facilitating some work days around Chicago for those who want to get started on new collaborations or simply catch up on work.

We're not looking to cash in on this at all. The expenses to participate will cover the cost of the meeting space plus snacks, coffee, and catered lunch both days. Any extra we have after will be refunded equally to everyone.

You're wondering who the ubiquitous "we" represents, right? This idea was started by the OneMind mastermind group that has been meeting for over three years now. Collectively, we know so many amazing indies that we wish we could invite them all to be part of our weekly meetings, but we've reached our max capacity for remaining a functional group, so this is our way of extending the benefits to others.

OneMind is made up of Alyssa Archer, Amy Teegan, Claire Taylor, Ember Casey, Kalvin Chinyere, Kerry McQuaide, and Monica Leonelle.

The conference is NOT sponsored by FFS Media. Claire's just hosting this info page because someone had to.

We won't be blocking rooms for this event, but we do have a Facebook Group dedicated to coordinating lodging, etc. Odds are, you know quite a few others invited. And if you don't, here's your chance to. There are plenty of awesome Airbnbs in this part of Chicago, and if you can reserve it at a weekly discount and share it among a few other attendees, it could be quite affordable.

Are you in?

If you plan on attending the Vermont 3rd Annual Knitting Festival, please purchase your ticket as soon as possible because we have limited space and need a final headcount + time to lock in food and accommodations. Thank you!

Please direct any questions to or the OneMind member who invited you.
